Gerhard Meinzer was honored by The German Society of Maryland at their annual banquet held at The Grand Lodge of Maryland on November 2nd.    Mr. Meinzer was recognized for his long dedication to fostering German – American relationships including the establishment of a scholarship fund to enable Maryland students to study in Germany.   He is the president of the Association of German-American Societies, the umbrella organization for the many metropolitan DC German clubs.  The Deutschamerikanischer Bürgerverein von Maryland, Inc. extends its heartfelt congratulations to Gerhard Meinzer.  The honor is well deserved!

New German Restaurants!

Okay.  It is all about the bier.  But there is definitely gutes Essen along with that bier.  If you’ve been following Maryland German’s Facebook page, you know about Das Bier Haus in Federal Hill and the Black Forest Taphouse in Fallston (in the building that housed Josef’s).   Crossbar der Biergarten will be opening soon near the Cross Street Market in Federal Hill.

Baltimore was once home to many fine German Restaurants.  We’ve mourned their passing one by one.  It is really important that the Maryland German community support these new entries as well as those that remain with our patronage.

Click on the bottom sentence on our “willkommen” page for a list of area German restaurants with links to their websites.   We will be adding Crossbar in the near future.  In the meantime, please let us know if we’ve missed any.

PROST!
